John 6:10-12
10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). 11 Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.
12 When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” 13 So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.
When Jesus fed more than 5,000 people (notice the scripture says about 5,000 men this does not take into account the women and children!), the masses knew that he was the Messiah that they were waiting for but I want to focus on a much-overlooked aspect of these verses.
When everyone was full of my belief in the best fish and bread you could imagine there were leftovers. Just like any big meal that we prepare today we always make more than will be eaten because we want to make sure everyone has enough. What I want to focus on is what Jesus said to the disciples. "Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.", when Jesus performed this miracle he knew exactly how much it would take to fulfill everyone's desire. I believe that the "leftovers" that Jesus instructed the disciples to gather was his way of telling them and us to not waste the miracles and blessings that he gives us.
Please look into yourself as you read this. What blessings has God bestowed unto you? Are you using these blessing to spread his word? Are you a great speaker? Can you play a musical instrument? Do you have the ability to help people with problems? I have NEVER claimed to be a writer and I am not saying these devotionals are the best but I feel that God is using me and this platform to spread his teachings. I am trying to capitalize on the blessing that God is giving me not for monetary gain but for reaching people to tell them about the greatest gift we can ever receive, eternal life.
